Case Study
Sutter Health
Sutter Health's vice president of communications approached The Grove to assist the healthcare organization in bringing clarity to—and building excitement for—its transformational vision. Using a Grove Storymap® as a vehicle to tell the story of Sutter Health's vision, it was felt, would help people understand the organization's direction and even exhibit contagious enthusiasm for the strategies employed to get it there.
Working with a small design team from the 45,000-employee non-profit, Grove designers began reflecting Sutter Health's vision in the form of rough concept drafts. Over the summer months, these concepts eventually morphed into a detailed Storymap employing rich metaphor and colorful graphics to support the organization's story.
“(The Grove) was an absolute pleasure to work with,” said Bill Gleeson, VP of communications. “I can't tell you how much I appreciated their expertise, outstanding work, good nature and fast turnaround under some very tight timelines.”
Completed in time for a 2,000-person management symposium that fall, the “Destination 2012” map was a key component of the event. In addition to the CEO's opening presentation, the map figured prominently in “strategy information booths” where cutouts of some of the map's elements were turned into life-size displays. Event organizers even constructed a large wooden “bridge to the future” that served as the entrance to the symposium.
“The Grove Storymap was the glue that held this very important event together. You’ve earned customers for life!”
