Joran Slane Oppelt
Senior Consultant
Joran Oppelt is a senior consultant at The Grove Consultants International. He expertly supports teams in achieving alignment, drawing on two decades of experience in visual consulting, strategic visioning, graphic facilitation, executive coaching and team development.
Joran holds a deep belief in the power of human potential and in artmaking as a tool for healing and community building. He uses a strengths-based/positive psychology approach when coaching leaders and teams and regularly leads groups in creating safe spaces to play with serious tools. His favorites include The Groveā€™s Team Performance and Strategic Visioning Systems, innovation/design thinking, OKRs, Integral Theory, Gamestorming, StoryBrand, and more. In his work with enterprise clients, he has helped shape strategy in the fields of technology, sport, healthcare, and finance. He also enjoys working with mission-driven not-for-profits committed to social impact.
Joran holds certification in coaching, storytelling, design thinking and virtual facilitation and is an award-winning musician and producer. Joran is the author of Facilitation: A Human-Centered Guide to the Art of Collaboration (2023); Visionary Leadership: How to Live Your Strategy, Create New Habits and Inspire Your Team (2021); and The Visual Meetings Field Guide: How to Facilitate Great Meetings for Amazing Teams (2020). He has spoken on stages around the world about media, creativity and innovationā€”including at South by Southwest and the Integral European Conference.
Before joining The Grove, Joran spent 11 years leading the marketing team at Creative Loafing, an alternative newsweekly in Tampa Bay, FL. For seven years, he served as the director of creativity and innovation at RIDG (Royal Innovation Design Group) before founding Illustrious Consulting in 2021.
Joran lives in Asheville, North Carolina, where he builds fires, collects books and records and still occasionally picks up the guitar.
