Workshop Overview
In this online workshop led by Grove CEO Gisela Wendling, Ph.D., you will explore how to embrace the unknown and proactively work with the inevitable destabilization that any real change brings with it. You will learn to tap into your own transformational agency and of those you work with to initiate individual and organizational renewal. Along with the other participants, you will consider important distinctions between types and drivers of change and how the core patterns of change unfold across levels of systems.
You will be able to appreciate the change competencies you already have and identify those you feel are essential for your development. You will discover new ways to access your creativity, work with resistance, envision possibilities, balance planning with being responsive to the emergent nature of change, and design your pathway to a more promising future. And you will learn key practices to support others through their change journey.
Each participant is invited to bring a change challenge to ground the learning in real-time situations. Coming together with a select group of change leaders and practitioners allows everyone to experience deep learning through well-facilitated explorations of ideas, cases, practices and each otherâs change challenges. And, most importantly, you will make progress with the change challenge on which you are working.
You will receive a printed copy of The Liminal Pathways Study and a comprehensive workbook to support your learning in the workshop.
âLike all the best models, there is a beguiling simplicity to the Liminal Pathways Framework (LPF) that can open the door to a lifetime of study and practice. Grounded in ancient wisdom and modern perspectives, the LPF can be applied in coaching, counseling, team development, organization development and social change.
Dr. Wendling urges us to remember that all transformational change requires each affected person to go through a personal transformation, and to think about what kinds of inner and outer support structures in this situation, at this time, with these people, will empower them to grapple more effectively with the inner work of changing.â
Gervase R. Bushe, Ph.D
Professor of Leadership and Organization Development, Simon Fraser University and author, The Dynamics of Generative Change
About Liminal Pathways
With more than 30 years of professional practice, Gisela Wendling, Ph.D., has developed a successful methodology and framework for working with transformational change that is now central to The Groveâs approach. Practitioners across continents have been using the Wendling Liminal Pathways Change Framework⢠(LPF) for nearly two decades, and it is reaching an increasingly wider audience.
In 2018, she co-authored Visual Consulting: Designing and Leading Change with David Sibbet. This book outlines The Groveâs practical approach to organizational-change work, integrating her Liminal Pathways Change Framework⢠with the Theory of Process that underpins all of The Groveâs methods into the Seven Challenges of Change⢠model.
In 2023, Gisela Wendling published The Liminal Pathways Study, which highlights the efficacy and benefits of the framework and examines how change agents have applied it across a wide range of personal, professional, and organizational contexts. The ideas and insights presented provide a much-needed understanding of what truly occurs during change.
Her deep appreciation of the true challenge of engaging with the unknownâthe liminal phase between what has been and what will beâhas led her to develop The Change Makerâs Spindle, a competency model and assessment tool for change leaders and practitioners.

âI am filled with gratitude for the excellence you brought to your teaching and facilitation. More than just slides and exercises, I learned from your grace and demeanor throughout the workshop. You created a beautiful, inclusive, non-judgmental space, and it was my joy to observe and learn from your example.â
Kerry Engler, President at Learning Through Change Inc.
âAs a change leader, it is my role to create structures (or crucibles) that allow people to transform whatever energy they bring to a change from one state to the next on their way to acceptance. When using the Liminal Pathways Change Framework, people no longer need to be managed through a change, but instead, are given the scaffolding to make their own way.â
Kevin Souza, Associate Dean for Medical Education, UCSF
âIt was a gift to learn from you, Gisela. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience so we can be ambassadors and facilitators of change.â
